Beyond EGTC, beyond Interreg. The annual meeting of the European Cross-Border Platform
The European Cross-Border Platform (ECBP) held its annual meeting in Gorizia on 13 and 14 November 2025. The first event of the new platform, launched in Budapest last year at the “Art of Cooperation” Council Presidency event, looked back at the achievements so far and analysed future perspectives, including new and innovative approaches to territorial cooperation.

The second edition of The World We Live In: Models and Perspectives of Cross-Border Cooperation in Central-Eastern Europe took place in Cluj-Napoca on 14-15 November 2025, bringing together leading academics, practitioners, and institutional representatives committed to strengthening cooperation across borders. Hosted by Babeș-Bolyai University, Bogdan Vodă University, and several partner institutions, the conference continued the intellectual tradition initiated through the FRONTEM (Frontières en mouvement) Jean Monnet Network. Over two days, participants explored the evolving challenges of the European project, from geopolitical instability to institutional innovation, while reaffirming long-term commitments to dialogue, professional exchange, and integration.

Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the last EGTC workshop of 2025 took place between November 4 and 5 in Villánykövesd. The host of the EGTC workshop was Pannon EGTC, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year and, in addition to its successful international projects, has been increasingly active in the Western Balkans in recent years.

Reichersberg, 6 November 2025 — More than 140 people joined the information evening “Arbeiten drent & herent” (“Working here and there”), held at the FACC Academy in Reichersberg, to learn about the realities of cross-border employment in the Upper Austria–Lower Bavaria region. With nearly 90 participants attending in person and another 50 following online, the event highlighted the growing importance—and complexity—of cross-border work.

Zsuzsanna Fejes, President of CESCI and leader of the LUPS-CESCI Research Group on Cross-Border Cooperation, together with Teodor Gyelník, Senior Researcher at CESCI, represented CESCI at the 2025 General Assembly of the Transfrontier Euro-Institut Network (TEIN). The General Assembly brought together representatives of TEIN member institutions in order to review recent activities, membership issues, future cooperation opportunities and to strengthen partnerships within the network.

The partners of the BorderLabs CE project convened in Gorizia on the 21st and 22nd of October. This year, the Italian town (established in 1001) is the European Capital of Culture with its Slovenian twin town, Nova Gorica (established in 1947), hosting many events. The partners discussed the actual tasks of the project and exchanged experiences on the topic of cross-border participatory governance.

On 20-21 October 2025, the Hall of the Evangelical College in Prešov hosted the international academic conference organised by IPOL (University of Prešov, Faculty of Arts, Institute of Political Science), which examined the challenges and prospects of Slovak-Ukrainian cross-border cooperation. The event was held bilingually with simultaneous interpretation and was supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency under project APVV-21-0057.

On August 29, 2025, the Bodrog-Tisza-Latorca European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (BOTILA EGTC) was officially registered. It was established along the Slovak-Hungarian border to strengthen cross-border cooperation.
