The first phase of the Wave project has been completed

| 30 June 2020

As part of the WAVE (WAter-linked heritage Valorization by developing an Ecosystem approach) project supported by the European Union’s INTERREG EUROPE program, CESCI prepared a Regional Status Quo analysis at the request of the Ister-Granum EGTC. The aim of this paper is to identify synergic relationships arising from endogenous resources on which water-related cultural heritage sites can be given new functions in the future.

The document grouped a total of 17 cultural heritage elements into three pilot packages: the face of the water focused mainly on the development opportunities of the various promenades, the power of water pilot mapped the cultural and tourist potentials associated with the creative and destructive power of water through watermills, water machines and flood signs; while the spirit of water connected and rethought water-related cultural elements such as the Danube Museum, the Zebegény Maritime Museum, the bridge guard and Aquaphone projects, as well as the Szikince Festival. The detailed synergic relationship of the pilot projects is illustrated in the figure below.

After all partners prepared the regional situation analyses and the Delft University of Technology commented on it, a comprehensive interregional learning process began, in which the partners shared with each other lessons learned from the analyses as well as details of best practices. Due to the epidemic, instead of a personal event, a three-day online interregional webinar provided an exchange of knowledge.

In the final phase of the project, the partners will develop action plans to bring about structural changes in local and regional policies and draft new project calls for the development of the affected sites and heritages.
