| 28 October 2020

The Mura Region EGTC organised a conference on October 6-7, 2020 called “Why do we need domestic OP funds in cross-border cooperation?”. The purpose of the meeting was to identify the European Union funds that could be used to finance developments in the wider border area for the period 2021-2027.

The topics of the conference were primarily tourism cooperation, but the underlying economic development was also of great importance. A presentation was given on the training of tour guides, its bilingualism, the creation of the Mura Region brand to facilitate the marketing of cross-border products, and the development of wine tourism. The parties are committed to developing a common tourism package plan for the Mura region. This includes the synchronization of the development of cycling tourism in South Zala, Alsó Muraköz and Kapronca counties, as well as the development of the water tourism offer on the river Mura. In this regard, participants considered it important that EU funding for their development in the 2021-2027 Operational Programs be used as effectively as possible by members from across the border and beyond.

The two-day event was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and was attended by Hungarian and Croatian secretaries of state, government officials, tourism and regional and rural development experts. As a result of the conferencethe “From Declining Sectors to Growing Sectors” – Complex Regional Development Package had been outlined which can be the basis for the development priorities of the next seven years.

At the conference, our association was represented by the Secretary General. Gyula Ocskay moderated the first panel and gave a presentation on the principle of cooperation in EU programs during the afternoon.
