Successful project proposals of Ister-Granum EGTC

| 28 October 2020

Ister-Granum EGTC won another tender to build a network of cycling roads, the plans will be implemented with the support of INTERREG V-A Hungray-Slovakia Cooperation Programme. The building of the cycle lanes between Párkány and Helemba and between Ipolydamásd and Letkés will be realised by the main applicant, Ipolydamásd, in cooperation with the town of Párkány and with the EGTC.

More good news for the people living in the region and for visitors to this area, that the decision-makers granted the application for the construction of a longer cycle lane connecting Karva with Párkány, the major part of which will run along the dam of the Danube. For the realisation of this investment the Regional Association Vagus-Danubius-Ipolia was granted, so if everything goes according to plans, within a year or two, one will be able to cycle on a continuous cycle lane, in the central part of Ister-Granum Euroregion, on the left bank of the Danube.

The cycle lanes connecting Párkány with Helemba, and Ipolydamásd with Letkés will be constructed, as a result of an investment project realised with the participation of Ister-Granum EGTC. One will be able to reach the bridge of Garamkövesd cycling on a hard road surface, and after crossing the bridge, will be able to continue his or her way until reaching that part of the railway bridge which is situated in Garamkövesd. From that point, the highway leading to Helemba will be accessible, moving forward on the already existing concrete road. To Helemba, one will be able to continue turning to the low-traffic highway, and after another built section, the Ipoly Bridge which will be rebuilt in the near future, will make it possible to keep cycling to Ipolydamásd. Heading towards north, one will be able to reach Letkés cycling on a protected route, along the dam of the river.

Ister-Granum EGTC elaborated a cycling strategy in 2017, which aims to create an integrated cycling network in the regions of Esztergom and Párkány. As a result of the winning of the tender, the network enabling safe cycling would be expanded significantly. The EGTC’s role in the project is the creation of cycling resting places, the designation of trails for biking, and their display and visualisation on a map.
