European Forum for Geography and Statistics Conference – Oslo

+ | 30 September 2025

The annual conference organized by the European Geospatial and Statistical Forum (EFGS) was held again this year in Oslo, the capital of Norway, organized by Statistics Norway and the Norwegian Mapping Authority. Our association was also represented at the event, with geoinformatics analysts Viktória Jánosi and Csaba Siki giving a presentation entitled “The critical role of data in cross-border cooperation.”

The motto of the conference, held between September 23 and 25, “Trusted data, in a changing Europe,” accurately reflected the professional focus of the presentations. Many speakers emphasized the importance of reliable and guiding statistical and spatial data for decision-makers.

Over the three days of the event, more than 60 presentations and workshops took place. Most of the participants were representatives of national statistical offices, spatial data institutions, and various other organizations. On the first day, workshops were organized at the Norwegian Statistical Office, where several speakers held professional workshops and gave detailed presentations on their areas of expertise. The presentations and discussions on the following two days focused on topics such as experiences with reliable data processing and data harmonization, the integration of spatial data into a GIS environment, and the growing importance, usability, and reliability of artificial intelligence.

On the last day, our geoinformatics analysts gave a presentation as part of the “Data Integration for Cross-border Work and Common Geometries” section, on the difficulties of data collection for cross-border analysis and research, proposed solutions, and introduced ongoing initiatives. During the presentation, Csaba Siki highlighted the complexity and obstacles of data collection experienced by our organization, as well as possible solutions, while Viktória Jánosi provided the audience with a detailed insight into projects already launched in Europe.
