Cross-Border Review 2014

The title ‘Cross-Border Review 2014’ is the first edition of the yearbook published by CESCI European Institute of Cross-border Studies in 2014. The Review offers a comprehensive approach towards borders, cross-border cooperation and their aspects in the contemporary political constellation of Europe.

The Review contains four theoretical studies which represent a theoretical frame of the Review. To be specific, frontier incident or metamorphoses of normality; role of borders in the transformation of space in the light of the European Union’s Regional Policy; geographic differences of the long-term demographic processes in the settlements of the North Hungarian border region; and accessibility study in the former Banat of Temesvar between 1910 and 2014. Moreover, the Review offers one practical research study about border proximity as a factor in strategic urban planning on the Slovak-Hungarian border area. Furthermore, the reader may find two workshop reports, four proceeding reports, seven book reviews and four outreach reports of the new Institute. Cross-Border Review 2014 is primarily recommended for the academic community, for students of geography and political sciences, and for those readers who are interested in questions of politics, regional policy, borders, fences, boundary formation, border permeability and cross-border cooperation and interaction.

The editor-in-chief was Gyula Ocskay (Secretary General, CESCI) and the editors were Áron Nagy (researcher and geographer, European Institute of Cross-border Studies) and Zsolt Bottlik (Director, European Institute of Cross-border Studies). Cross-Border Review 2014 is published in English and Hungarian.
