CROSS-BORDER REVIEW
CESCI’s Yearbook
Our most significant scientific publication is our yearbook called Cross-Border Review, which has been published in English since 2014. Its editor-in-chief is James W. Scott, a world-renowned professor of Border Studies, who has successfully invited some of the most prominent European researchers in the field to be part of the editorial team. The Yearbook is primarily recommended for the scientific community, students studying geography and political science, and professionals interested in border studies.

James Wesley Scott is the Professor of Regional Studies and Border Studies at the Karelian Institute of the University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu. Prior to this, he was a research fellow at the Leibniz Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning (Erkner, Germany) and an associate professor at the Freie Universität Berlin. He obtained his habilitation (2006), PhD (1990) and MA (1986) from the Freie Universitäten and his BSc from the University of California, Berkeley (1979). His research interests include urban and regional development policies, political geography, border studies, cross-border regionalism in Europe and North America, and the spatial effects of transformation processes in Central and Eastern Europe. He coordinated several projects supported by the European Union, including the EXLINEA and EUDIMENSIONS projects, which were implemented in the EU’s Fifth and Sixth Framework Programs, respectively.

Cross-Border Review 2023
The 'Cross-Border Review 2023' is CESCI's tenth yearbook, which is published this year in collaboration with the UPS-CESCI Research Group of Cross-Border Cooperation. The study volume analyses the importance of cross-border cooperation, emphasising knowledge exchange and social innovation. The authors also examine the sharp decisions made in the field of democracy, governance and personal freedom, highlighting the positive social benefits of cross-border cooperation.
Cross-Border Review 2022
This issue of the Cross-Border Review has been compiled during a rapidly changing geopolitical environment in Europe and the world in general. Nevertheless, as this edition of the Cross-Border Review demonstrates, cross-border cooperation and intercultural dialogue are alive and well despite numerous challenges.
Cross-Border Review 2021
The ‘Cross-Border Review 2021’ is the eighth edition of the yearbook published by CESCI. Unavoidably, this 2021 Cross-Border Review Yearbook is marked by the profoundly complex experience of living with a global and borderless pandemic.

The 'Cross-Border Review 2020' is the seventh edition of the yearbook published by CESCI. The current issue contains essays reflecting „on the multilevel and everyday significance of borders by engaging in border thinking exercises.
Cross-Border Review 2019
The 'Cross-Border Review 2019' is the sixth edition of the yearbook published by CESCI. The volume contains articles with wide spectrum of border approaches, including scientific, as well as policy-oriented perspectives, and it aims to explore how border studies can reflect social science research 'that matters' in terms of social development and intercultural dialogue.

The 'Cross-Border Review 2018' is the fifth edition of the yearbook published by CESCI. The volume puts together articles with very different perspectives on cross-border cooperation and it encompasses huge territorial space from Europe to China.

The basic research object of the Yearbook is the phenomenon and question of borders and the process of boundary changes.
