CESCI’s participation in the CROSUSMOB project
Knowledge sharing + Planning | 2026. March 12.
As a contracted expert, CESCI had the opportunity to participate in the CROSUSMOB project, implemented within the framework of the Interreg Europe Programme. The primary objective of the project is to promote regional cross-border sustainable mobility by removing existing legal, administrative and technical barriers, and by increasing the attractiveness of public transport through the harmonisation of timetables, tariffs and infrastructure. The project involves seven partners from six EU countries, including our contracting organisation from Hungary, the KTI Institute of Transport Sciences.
In close cooperation with KTI, CESCI prepared a study of more than one hundred pages examining the factors influencing cross-border public transport in the border area between Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County in Hungary and Satu Mare County in Romania. The study explores the spatial mobility patterns and travel habits related to these factors and, based on the identified mobility needs, formulates policy recommendations for the development of cross-border public transport connections (including new bus routes and railway links). Particular attention is given to the context of the Schengen border opening and the ongoing revision of Hungary’s National Transport Infrastructure Development Strategy. Within the framework of the project’s third Hungarian stakeholder meeting, held on 5 December 2025 in Mátészalka, senior analyst Roland Hesz presented the study’s methodology, main findings and the related policy recommendation package.
