CESCI to prepare the development concept of Šahy

| 21 May 2023

Following previous examples, CESCI will prepare a development concept for Šahy, located in southern Slovakia, based on the agreement signed between Pál Zachar, Mayor of the city, and Gyula Ocskay, Secretary General of the Budapest-based association, on 21 March 2023.

In recent years, at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, CESCI has prepared development concepts for several border towns (such as Lendava, Berehove, North Komárno, Satu Mare, and Salonta). These concepts directly reflect the nature of a border region and they are developed with the active involvement of local actors. As a result, specific improvements have been implemented in several locations using various resources.

Under the agreement signed at the town hall of Šahy on 21 March, the development concept of the Slovak town will be prepared using the same approach. CESCI will provide the development concept to the town administration free of charge by the end of July. The framework for the concept-planning project, starting in early April, was discussed at a workshop between CESCI and the city’s leading experts after signing the agreement.

Before the signing ceremony, the mayor gave a speech in which he pointed out that Šahy, located at the eastern corner of the Nitra region on the Hungarian border, performs regional functions. Some of these functions serve the Banská Bystrica region, while others serve the surrounding Hungarian villages. However, these capacities have not been analysed and used by any urban development documents before to formulate objectives. The agreement with CESCI guarantees that this concept, serving as a basis for future urban developments, will be prepared with an approach going beyond administrative borders.
