CESCI prepared the urban development concept for Šahy

As a result of nearly a year of joint design, on February 27, 2024, Šahy’s urban development concept, prepared by the Central European Service for Cross-Border Initiatives (CESCI), was presented to the public. The nearly 130 page document discusses in detail the development potential of the city, the strategic directions and possible sources related to them.

At the event, first the mayor of Šahy, Pál Zachar, summarised the work process, emphasising that the experts objectively analysed the city’s current situation and its role within the region, and formulated realistic, feasible goals for development. A grant resource map was also attached to the development opportunities, in which CESCI took into account Slovak, Hungarian, EU and cross-border grant opportunities.

At the event, Gyula Ocskay, Secretary General of CESCI, outlined the organisation’s more than a decade and a half of activity and said that, in addition to Šahy, the association also prepared a similar document for Komárno among others in recent years, paying special attention to the spatial role of the cities. Then Mátyás Jaschitz, the director of CESCI, presented the main points of the document in detail. The nearly 130 page strategic development document consists of three chapters: the situation analysis, which takes into account the social, historical and economic features of the city; the mapping of existing strategies, which places special emphasis on strengthening the city’s functions and catchment area; and the resource map, which lists the sources that can be used to realise the development plans. Furthermore, the director also said that during the development of the document, in addition to statistical analysis, fieldwork was also carried out in Šahy. Targeted interviews were conducted with various specialists in order to get a comprehensive picture of the city’s situation and development opportunities.
