Introducing the European Cross-Border Platform

| 20 February 2024

In order to further enhance cross-border cooperation and support the unique needs of border regions across Europe, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) has announced the establishment of the European Cross-Border Platform of which CESCI is an important ally. This initiative aims to consolidate efforts and provide a more unified approach to addressing the challenges faced by border communities. By gathering all stakeholders involved in cross-border cooperation – from border cities and regions to EGTCs and Euro-regions – the platform aspires to facilitate more effective dialogue and collaboration with the EU institutions.

Since CESCI was one of the founding members of the European Cross-Border Citizens’ Alliance as well, it is also closely involved in this new initiative as part of the steering committee along with MOT and AEBR and, as such, it will influence the Platform’s strategic direction.

However, the platform is not just a cooperation framework of principle; it also aims to be a vibrant community of practice. With a dedicated website and an invitation for cross-border structures to join, the initiative is rapidly gaining momentum. The platform also plans to host annual meetings in Europe’s border regions, providing room for participants to share innovative projects and explore specific challenges firsthand.

Currently the focus is on mobilising support, sharing knowledge, and ultimately, strengthening the social and economic fabric of Europe’s border regions. With a clear call to action for organisations to join the Platform and a wealth of upcoming events and opportunities with a view to making a significant contribution to the future of European integration and cross-border cooperation.

To participate in the platform’s work, complete this form. Participation is free of charge.
