Integrated planning methodology. Manual (HU)

In 2012, at the request of University of Public Service CESCI drafted an educational handbook titled ‘Integrated planning methodology’. The book was primarily made for the education of students interested in public administration, but planning, analysis and research professionals of different disciplines can also acquire some useful knowledge from the book about the spatiality of society and the economy. Therefore, one of the objectives of the book was to provide complex methodological knowledge of spatial analysis and planning.

The book divided into three chapters aimed to provide effective assistance for the professional work during the period between 2014 and 2020. The first chapter gives a theoretical introduction to spatial sciences, the concept of space and different approaches to space. It provides a conceptual background in order to understand border space and space from the perspective of a local government. The second chapter explores the complex spatial approach and history of integrated planning methodology, and provides a policy description on the principle of territorial cohesion. This chapter also outlines the draft Cohesion Policy regulations, as well as the planning potential of geographical information science. The third chapter provides assistance for the practical application of the methodology for analytical and planning purposes: it demonstrates the elements and possible process of the situation analysis (cohesion analysis) and the cohesion-based strategic planning based on the situation analysis developed by CESCI.
