CESCI participated at the 50th anniversary of the AEBR

| 29 October 2021

The Association of European Border Regions is the oldest and the largest organisation representing the interest of the local and regional cross-border initiatives and structures towards the EU institutions. Since its establishment in 1971, the association has actively been involved in the design and the implementation of EU cross-border policies.

The organisation celebrated its 50th anniversary between 20 and 23 October in Arnhem. The program started with the so far traditional cross-border school, the second day was dedicated to the official events while the third one to the meetings of the AEBR Task Forces and fieldtrips.

The General Assembly took place in the city hall of Arnhem where the representatives of the region, the municipality and the Council of Europe greeted the members who approved the annual professional and financial reports, the strategy of the association, the working and financial plans as well as the agreement (the Strasbourg Declaration) signed by the AEBR, the MOT and the CESCI at the beginning of October.

It was the Eusebius Church (used today for the purpose of laic community events) which offered the venue for the celebration of the anniversary coloured by a special walking dinner reflecting the diverse culinary traditions of Europe. The official events were accompanied with a colourful set of professional workshops focusing on the most important challenges that the border regions will be facing in the upcoming years. The orientation of these workshops demonstrated the willingness of the organisation to keep the position gained in CBC during the last half-century.
