We participated at the workshop of ECMI

| 09 February 2019

The ‘National Minorites and their influence on Regional Development’ workshop was organized in Flensburg from 7-8 February organised by ECMI (European Centre for Minority Issues), to which CESCI’s director of planning, Mátyás Jaschitz was also invited. The aim of the event was to discuss possible synergies between minorities and regional development and to develop methods for measuring their impact on the regional development of cross-border areas.

The topics cover three different research fields: regional development, border area studies and minority studies, thus the broad professional background of the participants was fruitful during the discussions. Our colleague, Mátyás Jaschitz, who was presenting the relevant on-the-spot experiences of CESCI in cross-border areas in the field of planning and institutional development, has also contributed to the professional discussion.

The event summarised useful knowledge on the role of minorities in regional development (especially in cross-border areas), outlined the possible strategies for further research, and provided a great opportunity for researchers of different fields to establish future, multidisciplinary cooperation.
